Rachel L. Burke

Rachel L. Burke age
101, died at the Cambridge Memorial
Hospital on Thursday, July 23, 2010. Rachel was born north of
Wilsonville on the family farm on February 28, 1909 to Charles
and Mary (Van Cleave) Meyers. Her mother died when she was 13,
Rachel moved to Hastings, NE to live with the Gregory family.
Rachel graduated from Hastings High School in 1926. Rachel went
to school in Greeley Colorado, and received
her certificate to teach Normal School. She moved to Wyoming,
where she taught for several years.
On March 15, 1930, she was
united in marriage to Charles Burke in Gering, Nebraska. The
couple made their home in Cambridge 17 miles north on a farm.
Charles preceded her in death in 1980. Rachel was an 85 year
member of the Trinity
United Methodist Church of Cambridge. She was an active member
in the UMW and the Martha Circle. She served on many committees
throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her parents,
husband Charles,4 Children: Robert; Rodney; Charles and Audrey
Peden; 8 siblings: Bryan, Dale, Glen, Robert, Hazel, Irene, Lela,
Goldie and an infant Della. Rachel is survived by her daughter:
Nancy and husband Dwaine Aden of Gothenburg, one son: Larry and
his wife Joan Burke of Elwood, NE; 19 grandchildren; 22 great
grand children;
20 great great-grand children; 3 daughter-in-laws: Reta Burke
of Cambridge; Joyce Boyer of Smith Center, KS; Gloria Burke of
North Platte, NE and a son-in-law: Ed Peden. Funeral services
were held on Monday, July 26, 2010, 10:30 AM at the Trinity United
Methodist Church in Cambridge.
Pastor Sherry Sklenar officiated the services.
Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge. Memorials may
be left in her name to either the Trinity United Methodist Church
or the American Cancer Fund. Friends may leave condolences

Irene Graf, age
88, of Cambridge died at the Tri-Valley Health System (Cambridge
Manor) on July 23, 2010. She was born in Antonino, Kansas on
July 20, 1922 to George and Martha (Haas) Pfannenstiel.
She was united in marriage
to Richard Graf on June 27, 1943, he preceded her in death in
1983. Richard and Irene farmed north of Holbrook
until retirement. Irene lived in Holbrook for several years before
moving to Cambridge.
After Richard’s death, Irene attended and graduated from
reflexology school in Denver, Colorado. Irene was a member of
the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She enjoyed conversation
around a cup of coffee. Irene was known for her wit and humor.
She enjoyed bowling.
She played the harmonica for the residents
at the manor. Irene enjoyed driving her white Chevy around town.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Bertha, Euphercina,
Evelyn, Pauline, Thresa; brothers: Melvin, Isidore,
Wendlyn, Alfred and Joseph. Irene is survived by two sons: Leslie
and wife Nenita of Cambridge, Nebraska; Delbert and wife Kathy
of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren: Danielle Jones, Richard
and Jessica,
three great grandchildren; and sister Florence Chidester of Salt
Lake City, Utah.
Rosary was recited on Monday, July 26, 2010
at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge, Nebraska. Mass
of Christian Burial was on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at St. John
the Baptist Catholic Church in Cambridge, Nebraska with Father
Robert Barnhill officiating. Interment was in the St. John’s
Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be left in Irene’s name
at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary to the Cambridge Senior Center.
